BSidesDetroit: Facilitating the Security Conversation

Having a destination security conference in Detroit is about bringing people from all over the country to Detroit, to talk about technical and non-technical topics, to educate and advance the industry in a location that doesn't get much in the way of security conferences, but has a relatively large number of IT and security professionals and students who call it home.

Participants. BSides Detroit brings the unconference style to information security meet-ups. BSides is about making a conference of, by, and for the participants. Above all, though, we aim to create community, and to facilitate networking.

Speakers. We like speakers, specifically new and local speakers, not necessarily the people who are all over every other conference. We like content, specifically new and emerging content, and not necessarily the stuff that is all over the media.  BSides Detroit is about sharing material frankly, honestly, and directly, for the purpose of informing, educating, and continuing the conversation.

Sponsors. BSides Detroit’s structure creates a higher degree of engagement. Sponsoring takes your message beyond the vendor booths. BSides Detroit takes your engagement beyond passing out swag, goodies, and tchotchkes. Our sponsors send technical staff and thought leaders who discuss real world problems and offer practical solutions. Be prepared to be a part of the conference, sharing ideas, meeting people, and interacting with the local community. Be prepared to be blown away by BSides Detroit.

Workshops

BSides Detroit has a number of workshops. These are limited seating and require a separate ticket from your general administration.

Armitage and Cobalt Strike Penetration Testing Lab The Metasploit Framework is a must-have tool for penetration testers. Armitage builds a workflow on top of the Metasploit Framework and exposes its most advanced capabilities. Cobalt Strike augments Armitage with tools to simulate advanced persistent threat-style targeted attacks. This lab oriented class will introduce you to the penetration testing process from the perspectives of Armitage and Cobalt Strike. You’ll learn how to craft an attack package, deliver it to a target, spy on a user, attack systems from a foothold, and abuse trust relationships to gain access.

Students will learn the penetration testing process from the perspectives of Armitage and Cobalt Strike. They will learn how to craft an attack package, deliver it to a target, spy on a user, attack systems from a foothold, and abuse trust relationships to gain access. Please see the Student Requirements section on the registration page. (Sold out. Sign up for the waiting list.)

Open Source Intelligence Workshop / Scavenger Hunt. Attendees will learn, over two half-day sessions, the OSINT lifecycle in the context of a scavenger hunt. They wll become familier with the fundamentals behind cyber intelligence collection and analysis, and how these current methods can be deployed in their organizations. They will also learn to visualize connections between information and physical assets through the use of Paterva's Maltego. Each workshop attendee will receive a 5-day enterprise license for us in both this workshop and the Security BSides Detroit CTF. (Sold out. Sign up for the waiting list.)

Password Cracking. A two hour workshop on password cracking with Cain and Abel. (Sold out. Sign up for the waiting list.)
